Adding Music

Groove supports the following file formats; MP3, MP4, M4A, FLAC, and ALAC.

From the Files App

Use the Files app to import your music from another folder on your iPhone, from cloud storage, or from a local network share.

You can either copy or move your music files into the Groove folder (this is located in On My iPhone), or import songs from within the app under "Library -> Import Music".

From Your Mac or PC

You can also add music to Groove using Finder on macOS, or Apple Devices on Windows PCs.

Editing Metadata

Groove lets you edit song and album metadata directly within the app. Changes are saved to Groove's local library database and do not modify the original audio files.

Editing a Song

Long-press any song and choose Edit Song. You can update the title, artist, album, year, genre, composer, track number, disk number, and lyrics. Tap Save in the top right corner and confirm to apply your changes.

Editing an Album

Long-press any album and choose Edit Album. Changes you make here — album title, album artist, year, genre, and compilation status — are applied to every track in the album at once. If the tracks in an album have different years or genres, those fields will show Multiple values; leaving them as-is preserves each track's individual value.

Updating Artwork

Artwork can be changed from the Edit Album screen. Tap the artwork thumbnail at the top of the editor to choose from:

  • Photos — pick an image from your photo library.
  • Files — choose an image file from the Files app.
  • Find Artwork — automatically search for artwork using MusicBrainz.
  • Clear Artwork — remove the artwork entirely.

Troubleshooting

Songs aren't showing up after I added them to the Groove folder in the Files app

Ocassionally, Groove might not see songs that you've added through the Files app. If this happens, you can force quit Groove and relaunch it, and the songs shoud start appearing after a few moments. If a the songs still don't appear, check that they're in a supported format (MP3, MP4, M4A, FLAC, or ALAC) and that they're inside the Groove folder in "On My iPhone".

I changed some metadata in an external app, and it's not reflected in Groove

You may have to press "Refresh Metadata" in Groove's settings. Depending on the size of your library, it can take several minutes to fully refresh everything.

Important: Because Groove doesn't directly modify the metadata in your files, using "Refresh Data" will undo any modifications you've made in Groove.
